KnoxCrush Academy is organized and administered by the Knoxville Football Club, a competitive youth soccer club that has served the Knoxville area for over a decade. By joining the academy, your child will receive training from enthusiastic, license coaches and learn soccer skills in a fun, positive environment.
Program Overview
The KnoxCrush Academy strives to find the right balance for the young soccer player between skills instruction and having fun playing the most popular sport in the world. The goal of our program is to enhance the excitement that our young players naturally feel for the game while avoiding soccer “burnout” at an early age.
Our Academy follows a training curriculum that is fun while promoting optimum player development. The goal of our program is youth player development by incorporating many of the training recommendations of the United States Soccer Federation. The consistent use of Academy’s curriculum will maximize player development.
Our Academy schedule is built around convenience and flexibility for our families. Our Academy programs will be offered multiple times each week at multiple convenient locations.
Our program also accommodates those families who want to also participate in a recreational soccer program, such as AYSO or Upward. Because we offer a flexible training and game schedule, our players can join our Academy for training by professional coaches while still enjoying the fun and camaraderie of a recreational program. With the economical pricing of our Academy, our Academy members can afford to get the professional training offered by our Club while still participate on a recreational team.
Academy Levels We will group our players into two groups – a beginning group that we call Little Kickers and our more advanced group, which we simply call our Academy. Within our Academy, we will create subgroups based upon levels of play in order to provide differentiated instruction based upon a players training needs.
Little Kickers
Little Kickers is designed for players that are 6 and under and who are just beginning their soccer experience. In order to benefit from our program, players should be enthusiastic about learning soccer and should have an adequate attention span to participate in an hour program. In our Little Kickers program, each session includes a half-hour lesson followed by half an hour of 3v3 play. Our lesson plan at this age primarily focuses on dribbling skills and gaining confidence controlling the ball. Little Kicker sessions are offered twice each week. When registering for Little Kickers, participants should indicate which session they are registering for, but players will be given the opportunity to make-up missed practices during the other session with notice to the coach. The Little Kickers program is coeducational. Little Kickers can be a good supplemental training session to a U-5/U-6 recreational program, or if the participant only wants one training session a week, Little Kickers should provide adequate opportunity for play at these ages. If a player wishes to participate in a recreational program that has games on Saturdays, he or she should register for the Monday session of Little Kickers to avoid a conflict.
Academy At our Academy level, there will continue to be a significant emphasis at this level on ball-manipulating skills, but our coaches also begin to focus on passing, defending and other fundamentals of the game. As our players progress, our training will incorporate basic soccer moves, will teach the control of the ball under pressure and at higher speed of play and will help our players become familiar with soccer terminology. Before graduating from our program, participants also begin to understand the basic responsibilities of position and show tactical awareness of group play.
Practice sessions will be held three times a week, and players are encouraged to attend at least two sessions each week to benefit the most from the program. Each training session will be for an hour.
At our training sessions, our players will be subdivided into at least two groups to permit differentiated instruction between intermediate and more advanced players. Players may be further divided based upon gender or playing level for training purposes. Our Academy is designed primarily for players in the U-7 through U-10 age groups, but older players are allowed to participate (up to U-12) with the coach’s permission.
Participants in the Academy will be asked to participate on four Sunday afternoons during the season in inter-squad games and/or “friendlies” against other recreational teams in the Knoxville area. At the end of each season, if there is adequate interest, players in the U-9 and U-10 age groups will be placed on teams and will participate in an out-of-town tournament to conclude the season. There will be an additional charge of $60 per player to pay for additional training and the cost of the tournament.
The structure of our Academy will allow our players to participate in a recreational league to get extra opportunities for Saturday play if desired.
KnoxCrush also expects to offer competitive teams at the U-10 level and possibly the U9 level (depending on participation) that will have a more extensive tournament and playing schedule. If you are interested in playing at this level, please contact our Director of Coaching, Scott Muir, at 806-3791. Our Club has found that U10 is an excellent age to begin playing competitive soccer because of the availability of tournaments at that age, the need for consistent coaching and the opportunity to develop team dynamics.
